Metals and mining

Situation

The client wanted to address system downtime caused due to unplanned events and network outages.

The client develops, owns, and operates iron and manganese mines. To enforce its commitments to eco-friendly and responsible investments, the company also entered the domains of hi-tech horticulture, agri-processing and renewable energy generation.

The company faced issues with productivity and system downtime due to unplanned events and network outages. Head office and remote workers were unable to access its system during non-business hours and pandemic conditions. Its existing email solution was leading to emails going missing and quota issues. With a limited mailbox size, email backup was also becoming a concern.

The client was also facing application performance latency with its hardware and software resources nearing end of life. Data loss posed a further challenge on account of data backup being conducted manually on local disks with limited space.

Further, management of user IDs and devices with security policies was a gap. It was therefore important to implement role-based access management for security reasons.

The Solution

Migration to Microsoft Azure

PwC helped transform the existing infrastructure and application landscape for enhanced system accessibility, availability and uptime. It facilitated the migration from the existing ERP infrastructure to Microsoft Azure.

Improved access to systems

The PwC team also helped enable head office, plant and remote users to easily access the system during non-business hours or from their workstations at home. The team automated the data backup process and established a secondary site for business continuity planning.

Migration of mail platforms to resolve backup and quota issues

The company transitioned from a third-party mail platform to Office 365 for uninterrupted communication, eliminating concerns about mail backup and quota issues. A programme desk was established to manage cloud assets as well as incident/service management and technology adoption needs.

PwC Impact iamge

The client didn’t want to just gain new insights and improve performance for themselves, they also wanted to unlock these benefits for their customers.
