Our PwC India Foundation is committed to making a difference in the society through their social entrepreneurship, community development and mentoring programmes.
The PwC India Foundation (PwCIF) started the #HeroesOfPwCIF series on PwC official social media channels in July 2019. The series features the beneficiaries of our corporate responsibility projects and their life journeys.
PwCIF, in collaboration with the NGO Reaching Hand, handed over gender segregated toilets and hand wash units to two schools in Bengaluru in July 2019, helping almost 500 students continue their schooling with dignity and confidence. The project was initiated with the intent to reduce dropouts of girl students in schools due to lack of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and menstrual health accessibility. As part of the intervention, PwC India Foundation also conducted WASH related trainings for the teachers, and distributed sanitation kits to the children.
PwC India supports the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) India which runs a 9 month social start-up fellowship for budding social entrepreneurs in India. One of the integral ways in which PwC India supports SSE India is by providing a PwC mentor to each of the fellows. This year, one of the SSE India fellows Umang Shridhar from the 2018 batch made it to the Forbes' 30 Under 30 list’. We captured Umang's and her PwC mentor's (Preeti Singh - Director - Learning and Development) experience of the mentorship journey in a short video byte.
PwC India Foundation collaborated with Savitribai Phule Mahila Ekatma Samaj Mandal to restore defunct water structures in Shelgaon and Narla in Aurangabad. Over three years, the project evolved into a holistic development of villages and the overall growth of the communities. The Foundation conducted several visits to these places; staff from the Mumbai office held multiple skilled and general engagement sessions with the villagers, understood their needs and aspirations and extended assistance, wherever required.
The PwC India Foundation completed 11 years of dedicated service to the community this year. The Foundation week was celebrated in September 2019 where PwCites contributed 170 hours of capacity building support to NGO partners on subjects related to project finance and management, impact assessment, monitoring and evaluation, taxation, accounting, digital literacy, CSR governance, internal processes, and HR and general administration. PwCites also sensitised over 3000 school children on water conservation through a catchy, animated film created internally.
PwC India Foundation has collaborated with the illustrious Sonam Wangchuk, an Indian engineer, innovator and education reformist on his journey to fight water shortage and climate change in the fragile region of Ladakh. We’re supporting him in building of ice stupas to help get the local communities access to water in the summer months.
