Lending a helping hand to the flood affected families

PwC India Foundation recently handed over 69 transitional shelters and sanitation units to identified families in Mananthavady municipalty of Wayanad district who lost their homes during the floods that hit the state of Kerala in August 2018. Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEEDS) India, an NGO which specialises in disaster response and the rehabilitation space, assisted the Foundation on this project on ground.

This project is part of the foundation’s efforts to provide safe shelters to disadvantaged communities in times of natural disasters. The shelters and sanitation units have been made using materials that were locally sourced and which can be reused when the families consider more permanent shelter solutions.

Our former COO Satyavati Berera met the affected families and penned down a blog on her experience.

PwC India Foundation bags the ICC Social Impact Award 2018

The foundation won the ICC Social Impact Award 2018 in January this year. The social impact award recognises the excellence of organisations in the sphere of social investment, CSR and sustainability.

The foundation was declared the winner in the small projects category for its project focussed on reducing hunger, conserving water, enhancing agricultural production and incomes in 10 villages in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The interventions were in response to the severe and consecutive droughts that the villages had been facing, leading to extreme vulnerabilities among the communities.

Arijit Chakrabarti, Partner, Advisory Consulting, represented the foundation at the Awards summit. The result was a mix of audience voting and jury’s decision. Read about the journey of the project here.
